How to choose a watch in Morocco: the complete guide

A watch is worn every day, noticed at every handshake and kept for years. Before buying one, four questions are enough to get it right: what you will wear it for, which movement, which size and which strap. Here is our guide to choosing a watch in Morocco.

1. Start with how you will wear it

The right watch is the one that fits your days. For the office, a wedding or a dinner, a dress watch — a clean light dial on a leather strap — is the safe choice (for example: Classic Black Leather — White Dial). For everyday, active wear or weekends, a steel chronograph is more versatile: tougher, and just as good with jeans as with a jacket (for example: Titan Chronograph — Steel & Grey Dial).

2. Quartz or automatic?

A quartz watch runs on a battery: accurate, light and almost maintenance-free. An automatic watch winds itself with the movement of your wrist: traditional mechanics, prized by enthusiasts. For a first fine watch, quartz is often the most relaxed choice. We explain the difference in quartz or automatic.

3. Pick the right size

Case diameter changes everything. Most men’s wrists suit 40 to 44 mm; most women’s, 28 to 36 mm. Too large and the watch overhangs the wrist; too small and it disappears. Our guide which watch size for my wrist helps you measure yours in a minute.

4. Steel, leather or mesh: the strap

  • Steel: strong, easy to live with, ideal in the Moroccan summer heat.
  • Leather: elegant and comfortable, best kept away from water and sweat.
  • Milanese mesh: fine and adjustable, between sporty and smart.

5. Check the water resistance

A watch marked 3 ATM handles rain and splashes, not the shower or the pool. To swim, aim for 10 ATM or more. Everything is explained in water resistance: what 3, 5 and 10 ATM mean.

6. Set your budget

In Morocco you will find good fashion watches from a few hundred dirhams, and more finely made pieces between 1,000 and 3,000 DH. Beyond the price, look at the finish of the case, how readable the dial is, the quality of the strap and the warranty stated on the product page.
